Located in Omaha, Creighton University is one of the oldest and largest private universities in Nebraska. With more than 7000 students and a faculty of almost 900 professionals, Creighton University now enjoys a legacy of 130 years. With a motto of “Willing to Lead,” Creighton University has proven its worth among the best educational institutes in the world.


Back in 1876, Mary Lucretia Creighton, thee widow of Edward Creighton, died with a will of $100,000 to build a school n the city of Omaha. It was his brother-in-law, John Creighton, who served the purpose, bought land, built the school and handed the land, the building, and additional securities to the Right Rev. James O'Connor, D.D., Bishop of Omaha, on July 1, 1878. It was the beginning of a new educational era in Omaha, known as “The Creighton University!”

Since then, Creighton University is the core of educational and learning opportunities in Omaha. John P. Schlegel, S.J. is the running president of Creighton University.
