History:

Saint Leo College was founded on June 4, 1889, when the Florida legislature authorized the Order of Saint Benedict of Florida to "have and possess the right and power of conferring the usual academic and other degrees granted by any college in this State."

Saint Leo College is named after Leo Haid, the principal founder and first elected president of the college. On September 14, 1890 Saint Leo, as the first Catholic college in Florida dedicated its main building and opened its doors. In the same year, the university also enrolled 32 students for classes including the curriculums of mix liberal arts and commercial courses leading to the Master of Accounts degree. Saint Leo became accredited by the Southern Educational Association in 1921 after the conferring of its Master of Accounts degree on its first graduating class of five students on June 20, 1893. In 1994, the college began to offer the Master of Business Administration and started to grant its first MBA degrees in 1996. Till August 24, 1999, Saint Leo College became Saint Leo University. Today, through its main campus, military basis and community colleges located throughout seven states in United States and through the university’s Center for Online Learning, Saint Joseph University offers more than 40 academic degree and certificate programs to more than 14,000 students.

Saint Leo University's Center for Online Learning was established in October of 1998 to meet the growing needs of adult students who are either employed or are unable to attend on-campus classes. The Online Learning Center offers the best traditional inheritance of classroom education in conjunction with now-a-days cutting edge technology. Through the Internet students are provided with the opportunity to advance their education and exceed their knowledge without having to travel to a traditional campus. All of the students receive the same educational degrees as campus based students.
