Midwest by U.S. News & World Report's America's Best Colleges 2009 ranked the Saint Xavier University as one of the top 40 comprehensive master's universities in the Midwest.

History:

The roots of this prestigious and respective institute were laid down in 1846 when Saint Francis Xavier Academy for Females welcomed its first group of female students in makeshift facility at Madison Street and Michigan Avenue in central Chicago. In 1847, due Sisters of Mercy struggles and hard works the Academy earned the empowerment of degree conferring. Sisters of Mercy opened the college for women in 1915, known as Saint Francis Xavier College for Women and welcomed five students and offered a classical program anchored in religion, languages, mathematics, and history. In 1937 Saint Xavier College achieved accreditation from the then North Central Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges. In 1956, the college moved to a new location in 103rd Street and Central Park Avenue. In 161, the college confers its master’s degrees – in theology and in education and initiated its first Nursing graduate degree in 1963. The college gained its first access to computer in 1968. Becoming Saint Xavier University in 1992, university has dedicated herself in the development of youth and educating community.
