Be honest.
Lying to the manager makes matter worse. If you are honest to your manger about your strength and weaknesses than the manger would know the real you and he/ she will make an informed decision that how well you will do in the job.

Small stuff
Managers are always observing you at pin point accuracy but this does not mean that you have to be Mr. Perfect. All you have to do is to make sure that you don’t make errors in your email and C.V. plus don’t be rude the manger’s assistant. Mangers pay attention to candidates who respond to a request for writing samples and how fast they return to phone calls.

Enthusiasm
Managers are always looking for some enthusiasm. Showing some interest in job or sounding like you are eager to have this job will help you cross the line if you are called more than once in a week. Your enthusiasm will show that you genuinely care about making sure you’re good fit for the job.  

Talk in interviews, but be concise
While hiring a candidate it is mostly seen that some of the candidates are long-winded but it does not means that they cannot do a good job. Actually it shows that you are not good at picking up conversational questions and raises doubt that you might not be able to handle tasks properly.

Phone interview, not a casual chat.
When a manger is calling you he/she might get sense of your personality because the call you are attending is not a phone from a friend. So, don’t be so nervous or talk like you were talking to girl friend last night. Many managers say that sometime the candidate is on the couch and having some snacks while they were talking. Talk with your natural accent and like you were waiting for this call eagerly

Checking on references
Reference checkers may call anyone you worked for and if they are not the one in the list you provided, then this might put an end to your job which might create a worse scenario for your career.
