The university has been recognized annually by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) as one of the nineteen higher educational institutes. Wall Street Journal Report Business school`s MBA programs are ranked in the top 100 business programs in the world.

History:

University of San Francisco was founded by Father Anthony Maraschi, S.J. in 1854. Originally the College was first known as St. Ignatius Academy. With only three students at first who attended the school when its door got opened for education, the School grew that number to 65 by 1858. Later in 1859 the state of California granted it a charter.

In 1862 the College constructed a new building on the same site. Granting the first Bachelor of Arts degree in June 1863, the school opened College of Liberal Arts and College of Science in 1931. Developing School of Law in 1927, School of Business and Professional Studies in 1924, School of Education in 1948, and School of Nursing in 1948, the University of San Francisco celebrated its successful 150th anniversary in 2005. To make these sesquicentennial celebrations a memory, a number of historical vignettes were created with the prospective to illuminate USF's history, and these are still available on line.

USF is one of the oldest universities in San Francisco and also included in the only 28 Jesuit Catholic colleges in the country.
